The design gap this closes, sizing by height, and what women ask most
The gap this is meant to close
Most canes sold to women are men's canes in a lighter colour. That shows up in two places that actually matter: length and handle size. A cane sized for an average man is commonly two to four inches too long for an average woman, and a cane that is too long pushes your shoulder up with every step — which is why so many women describe a new cane as making their neck and shoulder ache.
The fix is not a women's product line. It is a cane cut to your measurement. That is what this is.
What length do most women need?
The rule from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons: standing up straight, the top of the cane should reach the crease of your wrist, with a slight bend at the elbow. Roughly half your height:
- 5′0″ → about 30″
- 5′2″ → about 31″
- 5′4″ → about 32″
- 5′6″ → about 33″
- 5′8″ → about 34″
Measure in the shoes you actually wear most. A two-inch heel changes the answer, and so does switching to flats for winter.
What women most often ask about
- Is it heavy? It is a solid wood shaft, not aluminium tubing, and it is meant to feel substantial in the hand rather than flimsy. If minimum weight is your priority above all else, an aluminium cane will beat it — we would rather say so.
- Grip and arthritis. The handle is shaped to spread load across the palm rather than concentrate it under the base of the thumb, which is where cane-related hand pain usually starts.
- Which hand? The hand opposite your weaker or painful leg — not the sore side, which is most people's instinct. Check which hand →
- Does it look medical? That is the point of the colours. A fuchsia or forest-green handle on a natural oak shaft is read by strangers as an accessory, not a diagnosis.
Choosing a colour
All seven handle colours — Fuchsia, Deep Blue, Vibrant Red, Stealth Black, Traffic Yellow, Forest Green, Vibrant Orange — are available with all three shaft finishes at the same $75. Natural Oak is the lightest and warmest wood; Wenge Oak is dark and more formal; Black Finish is the most neutral. A bright handle on a dark shaft is the combination most people are surprised by and then choose.
